yaya 001 12"

YaYa 001 - OBX / Dr. Freeteza 12"

It's been out for a few months now but considering the length of the production process I guess it doesn't really matter that I write a review now. But as the German saying goes "Was lange währt wird endlich gut. (If it takes long to finish, it will turn out good eventually)"
It turned out to be a good first effort after all without any of the flaws that plague first releases lot's of times.
The production is pretty crisp, the tracks are the right length and don't screw with the sound quality of the grooves by squeezing too much music on the record. The material is good, featuring 2 artists from different scenes with original tracks but not too diverse as that it would become too mixed up. The label-artwork and the black sleeve come off nice too, creating a nice overall package that fits the sound.

Side A has two tracks by OBX of ZMK Soundsystem from Holland and side B features Doc Freeteza from Thessaloniki, Greece.
OBX kicks off on A1 with a trademark industrial hardcore/teKno basher, holland style. Darkish, industrial, booming bass and metallic klicks at about 165 bpm. My fave. Track A2 also by OBX is an Ambient tune which could be described as "the heavy breathing of machines." That sums it up pretty good.

Side B then is done by a Greek artist and as far as I know it's his first release, too. The groundwork of B1 is pretty classic hardtek/tribal with a dark atmosphere to it. Doesn't get boring but keeps up the attention. B2 slows down considerably to somewhere around 155 bpm and has a harsh feel to it at first like it could turn hardcore and then is contrasted by a spherical melody. Strong first effort by Doc Freeteza, this could definately be better in depth and sometimes still feels a bit crude but it is much better than a lot of crap that is being pumped out these days, especially from France.
